GDR 1961-62

This was a transitional year. To get back to the August-March schedule common in Europe, the season was adjusted so DGR teams would be inline with European competition.

This season, teams played each other on a home-away basis, and then met a 3rd time on neutral ground, to allow a total of 39 games. The decisive match was actually in Rostock, where 35,000 fans watched the Berliners win 3-1 and secure the title.

Overall attendance was not good, only 8,088 per match, which was the lowest in GDR history up to this point.
