VfR Aalen

This small club has not only had to live in the shadow of the nearby larger Schwaben clubs, but also has a local rival as well - the local KSV is a powerhouse of wrestling. Nevertheless, after years in obscurity, things are looking rosy for VfR.

Founded 1921, the club basically languished in the lower amateur divisions in eastern Wuertemburg. However with the promotion into the Regionalliga in 1999, the club surprised with strong play, and the goal of achieving qualification to the new combined Regionalliga became a distinct possibility. Midseason weakness threatened that goal, but eventually the team stabilized, and the newcomers qualified for the new league.

The campaign in the new 3rd division proved that VfR was a solid club. Although promotion was never an issue, neither was relegation.
