Bischofswerdaer FV

A small club in the Oberlausitz region of eastern Germany. Founded in 1908 as Germania Bischofswerda 08, they became SV" in 1919. There wasn't much to write about on the soccer field, as the club kicked around in the lower divisions. The biggest success was probably in 1942, when they sensationally knocked out the famed Dresdner SC in the Cup.

During the GDR days, they were known as Fortschritt Bischofswerda, from 1970 on. Earlier, various local clubs had been fusioned into the original BSG Fortschritt. In any case, success was modest, although they did make a brief appearance in the old DDR-Oberliga for a taste of top flight in the late 1980s.

After reunification, they started out decently, and then began a decline that basically sees them falling off the map.

Highpoint of attendance was 1986-87, the first DDR-Oberliga season, when they averaged almost 8,000 fans. The stadium was expanded to 11,000 after the 1987 season.

Supporters Usually only a couple hundred. Known as "Schiebockers". (Also a local term for the town). Attendance in the 6th division has dwindled to around 150.
