FC Bremerhaven

Info is a bit mysterious regarding soccer in Bremerhaven, but as far as I can piece together, the story runs somewhat like this:

Depending on who you read, the roots go back to either 1893 or 1899. In 1893, the Arbeiter Turnverein Bremerhaven was founded, and they started playing soccer in 1912. This was eventually named TuS Bremerhaven 93. They were pretty much the top local club, playing in the old Oberliga and Regionalliga from 1947 until being wound up. In 1974, this club merged into OSC Bremerhaven. The players did so grudgingly, but competed under the long-winded name "TuS 93 im OSC" for 3 years. Then in 1977, with promotion into the 2.Liga-Nord, apparently OSC's directors decided to grab the glory force the players under the OSC name formally. (Not that it was worth much, since they finished 19th and were relegated.)

Apparently old habits die hard. In 1991, the contract soccer players left OSC en masse, and joined VfB Lehe, which then renamed itself FC Bremerhaven 1899 in 1992. They also laid claim to the "true" lineage of TuS 1893. In any case, FCB and OSC are roughly of equal strength these days.

The other thread really refers more to VfB Lehe. This was founded in 1899 as FC Bremerhaven, but was soon known as FC Bremerhaven-Lehe

After gaining promotion in 1999, the 2000 season simply showed that Bremerhaven was not strong enough to stay up, and they were duly relegated.
