TSB Flensburg TSB Flensburg The main sport in Flensburg is apparently merging with other clubs, and then splintering off into other clubs.
The roots go back to 1849, with MTV Flensburg. In 1865, they merger with Flensburger TV 1860. In 1876 some of these members left to form another gymnastics club again named FTV, who disbanded in 1881 when they could find nobody else to merge with. The highpoint of the organization of the soccer section in 1902. However, this only lasted with until 1923, when the soccer players, with the aid of the German Walkers, joined up to eventually form rival Flensburger 08. Not to be outdone, TSB combined with MTV 1881, who had been formed from the ashes of MTV (Männer Turnverein), in 1935. Luckily, World-War-II intervened to stop the interventionist Flensburgers.
After the war, they took up their old ways. In 1946, whatever the club was now called merged with Flensburger SC, and in 1947, they changed their name to Flensburger Turnerbund. Things seemed to stabilize, but dark clouds were on the horizon, as in 1950, as some members merged with themselves and re-started the Nordmark line of clubs. Aside from changing their name in 1955, this led to the "Pax Flensburgana", which meant no mergers until 1973, when TSV Vorwärts 97 joined up. Vorwärts came out of the Workers clubs, which took the "workers of the World, Unite!" slogan seriously. So like their capitalist breathren, they too had more "fusions" then a hemophiliac. They had also been banned by the Nazis in 1933, so individuals fusioned themselves into other clubs or perhaps joined the Danish Walkers Union. After starting again in 1945, they eventually became VfL Flensburg in 1948, before a new round of fusion bloodletting led to the Vorwärts name in the 1950s. In any case, the new club was called TSB Flensburg. It is rumoured that the EU bureaucrats in Brusssels have a clause in their 80,000 pages of legislation that prohibits Flensburg from having any more mergers.
On the field, TSB has challenged rivals Flensburg 08 for supremacy, although F08 appears to have the upper hand. However, in the more important merger category, it would appear TSB is on top.
