Preussen Münster

The club was founded in 1906 as FC Preussen, and has some 850 members. The name was changed to it's current form in 1920. The first real success came in 1951, when in front of 107,000 fans in Berlin's Olmpic stadium, they were defeated by Kaiserslautern in the finals of the German championship. Preussen was a founding member of the Bundesliga in 1963, but they were relegated after one season.

After a generally mid-level existence through the 70s, by the 1980s, Preussen had fallen to the regional 3rd division. A short stint in the pro ranks at the end of the decade followed a short return to amateur ranks.

The 1999-00 season proved to be succsesful, as Preussen made the cut for the new combined Regionalliga. Whether they have the resources to stay remains in question, but they will undoubtedly continue to hang around. In 2004, it took a last day away victory at Wattenscheid, but the Eagles stayed up. Disaster finally struck in 2006, and Preussen dropped down to the 4th division for the first time.

Stadium Preussenstadion. Capacity: 21,700.
Built in 1926, it once held up to 45,000 in the 1950s. However, by their own admission, the condition was basically crap, so a renovation was sone in 1999.
Tickets Couldn't find any pricing, but based on old DM prices, probably in the 6-12 euros range. Generally not too hard to get.
Supporters Averaged 3,700 in 2004 (Regionalliga). Fairly decent, some 18 fan clubs registered. The club sells "Preussen Condoms", emblazoned with the Eagle symbol. This seems a bit counterproductive, because that could reduce the number of potential Preussen fans! If you're interested, only DM 5 and you can go on the road trip if they ever play St.Pauli again...
