Rheydter SV

The club was founded in 1905, and numbers about 1400 members. The first attempts at local organized soccer was around 1899. By the 1920s, they were playing in regional leagues, but aside from a couple of years in the Gauliga Niederrhein in the mid 1930s, not much worth mentioning.

In the 1950s, they had some success. A young Hennes Weisweiler became head coach in 1952, and lead RSV to the Oberliga-West, then the top regional division.

The highpoint of the soccer squad was probbaly 1990, when they reached the finals of the German amateur championship, losing 0-2 to FSV Salmrohr.

A moderately successful Oberliga run in the 1990s came to an end in October 2002, when the club went into bankruptcy proceedings and all results were annulled.
