TSG Sprockhövel 1881

Soccer history started in 1907 with the founding of Athene Sprockhövel, which was renamed to Sportverein Sprockhövel (SVS) two years later. By 1922 the club was promoted into the higest regional Westfalen class and playing teams such as Schalke and Borussia Dortmund! Despite the small size, they would attract some 2,000-3,000 fans per match. This lasted until 1927, with relegation. In 1938, SVS merged with some gymnasts to become TSG Sprockhövel. However, the long downward trend continued. By 1983, "rock bottom" was reached, and TSG dropped down into the Kreisliga, playing against B squads of other clubs. Since then, things have gotten better, and TSG has steadily moved back into the upper reaches of amateur football.
