1.FC Lok Stendal

A small club in the western region of the former GDR, this club has had a modest history, and a small, but dedicated following. In 1945, the Soviets dissolved all clubs, including the traditional FC Victoria. After a couple of renames, in 1949, BSG "Hans-Wendler" Stendal was the official name, and the club began to participate in GDR league play. By 1950, the name was again changed to BSG Lokomotiv, perhaps because people didn't like Hans Wendler, who was probably some commie bureaucrat. Until 1968, Lok participated in the DDR-Oberliga, but after taking the drop, was never able to work it's way back.

In 1990, the club became officially known as FSV Lok Altmark Stendal an embarked upon a relatively successful stay in the Regionalliga. However, both financially and athletically, the situation deteriorated. 1998-99 proved to be a difficult season for Lok. They were embroiled in the relegation battle for a long time, until other clubs decided to suck even more. The next year the result was a foregone conclusion. Stendal had no chance to qualify for the new 3rd division, and had to rebuild in the Oberliga.

However, things went from bad to worse. By 2002, Lok was bankrupt, and the club essentially folded. A merger was arranged with the small local club 1.FC Stendal. The new club was named 1.FC Lok Stendal. The new Lok was forcibly relegated, but given the chance to start over in the Verbandsliga. In 2006, administration loomed again, but at least the squad was able to avoid relegation from the 5th division.
