FV Gera Süd

Formerly 1.SV Gera

This club claims it's roots back to 1904, with the founding of the original Sport Club. The actual formation however was in 1938, when Koncordia Gera-Reuß and SpVgg Gera 1904 combined.

In the GDR, the club became known as Wismut Gera, but had very little success. In teh early years, they did manage some appearances in the Oberliga, from it's start in 1949 until 1953. They also reached the finals of the FDGB-Pokal in 1949, losing 0-1 to Waggonbau Dessau. But things went downhill, and with the reorganization of GDR soccer in the mid 1960s, things got even crappier. Indeed, they only managed to reach the DDR-Oberliga once again, in 1977. After reunification, Wismut decided to change in 1993; it then adopted the old name.

After a few years competing, the wheels started to fall off. It apparently went into administration and was out of comission. Some of the players apparently went over to a new club, 1.FC Gera 2003. In 2004, 1.SV Gera was playing in the Bezirksliga, and were able to announce that they "are free of debts".

In May 2007, the club merged with FC Blau-Weiss Gera and Geraer Dynamos to form a new club: FV Gera Süd. Actually, only the soccer players moved over. The other members continue to play their sports like tiddly-winks in 1.SV Gera...
