DSC Wanne-Eickel

Like the ex-town where it resides, this club has essentially vanished into obscurity, although they had a brief moment in the sun, as they played in the 2nd division at the end of the 1970s.

The club was founded in 1954 as TB Wanne-Eickel 1954 and became DSC in 1969.

In 1978 DSC managed the jump into the 2.Liga Nord, and managed a respectable finish for two seasons. However low attendance figures (average declined to 3,000 by 1980) convinced the club to accept voluntary relegation. This move further reduced attendance (usually down to 600-1,000 in Amateur-Oberliga years). The soccer section became independent in 2000, but soon after dropped down to the 6th division, the lowest ever.
