FC Anker Wismar FC Anker Wismar The roots reach back to 1945, when sports started again as SG Wismar-Süd. It was joined by the shipworkers and then eventually autoworkers to become BSG Motor in 1951. 10 years later, with the merger of BSG Schiffreparatur it grew into Turn- und Sportgemeinschaft Wismut. The GDR were basically 2nd division status, although in 1972 they won their Staffel, only to fail in the DDR-Oberliga promotion playoff.
In 1997, the soccer section of TSG merged with SV Schifffahrt/Hafen Wismar 1961 to form the soccer only FC Anker. (There had been a ZSG Anker from 1949-51). Originally the two clubs planned a full merger, but apparently TSG pulled out at the last minute. In any case, the soccer players left TSG. The long term plan (to 2010) is "to become the 2nd strongest soccer club in our state, after Hansa Rostock."
