The club was started in 1945 as the Volkssport- und Kulturverein Wolfsburg. Perhaps in recognition that there was no other Kultur in the manufactured city, they decided to just play soccer, becoming 1.FC (VfL also grew out of the same seperation.)
After some modest success in the early 1960s, the club disappeared. Since VW decided to bless VfL, there was no room for them.
